Congratulations to Sheila Tobin Cavooris

Sheila Tobin Cavooris, School Library Media Specialist at the Great Hollow Middle School and School Library System Liaison for the Smithtown Central School District was awarded a $500 Technology Grant by the Suffolk School Library Media Association (SSLMA) at their annual dinner on May 14, 2015.

Sheila requested funding for two Chromebooks to enable students who do not have home computers to keep up with work on a research project on the Roaring Twenties. The project is a collaborative effort between Ms. Cavooris and an 8th grade social studies teacher, Michaela Riviello, which looks at many aspects of life in the 20’s; but uses many digital tools including Piktochart, NoodleTools, Google Forms and Classroom. The unit was modified from an existing mandated study that the educators were inspried to update following Paige Jaeger’s workshop here on December 11, 2014.

In addition, Sheila and Michaela were awarded a “Teacher Integration Award” from the WSBOCES Model Schools Program for this same collaborative unit – “Goint Paperless: Using Technology for a Fresh Approach to the Roaring Twenties”. The awards were presented at a brunch on June 11, 2015 at WSBOCES.
