Latin and Greek Word Roots: The Keys to the Castle of Academic Vocabulary **IN PERSON** presented by Amy Benjamin – 8:30-2:30pm

March 22, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 2:30 pm

Knowledge about Latin and Greek roots helps us figure out unfamiliar words, deepen our understanding of words, and find relationships among words that we didn’t even know were related. But how can we teach word roots without just giving out lists and worksheets? We know that way doesn’t lead to durable learning. In this full day workshop, you will learn engaging, memorable ways to build deep word knowledge through the principles of pattern recognition, etymology, visuals, and meaningful repetition. We can help students hone their linguistic intuition so they can feel more confident around academic vocabulary. This workshop is especially useful for ELLs whose native language is based on Latin (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian). Gr 4-12 Eligible for 6 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1 Consortium seat. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
